Statement on Spirituality and Spiritual formation in theological education in UBS

On December 11, 2009 the Faculty adopted the following statement unanimously.

We the Faculty of Union Biblical Seminary affirm that,

1.    Jesus is the model of our spirituality and character and our goal is to grow in to Christ-likeness.

2.    Spiritual formation of our students and our own has to be intentional.

3.    We need to be role models to each other and to our students.

4.    Our academic pursuit and pursuit of holiness cannot be separated and they complement each other.

5.    We are committed to community life and ethos of UBS where order and discipline is integral to spirituality.

6.    The importance of the rhythm of UBS community life for the spirituality of faculty, staff and students and all those who are in the community. This implies that participation in community events is essential for spiritual formation and growth.

7.    There is constant need for confession, forgiveness and reconciliation in the community in order to grow together spiritually.
