COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The Community Development Project of Union Biblical Seminary was established in the year 1990 with the aim and objective of all-round development of women and children. We have the infrastructure with adequate facilities to organize development programs, and workshops for the upliftment of women and children.

The Women Development Project proposal deals with all round development of marginalized women who are living in the slums whose standard of living is below substantial level. These women are living in and around Bibvewadi area where Union Biblical Seminary is situated. The health and hygiene condition of the women living in these areas is pathetic; some of them do domestic work and support their families, as their husbands are addicted to alcohol. The education level of women living in these areas is not satisfactory, as most of them are school dropouts and target of early marriages.

Overall Objective:

The overall objective of this project is to eradicate the poverty, health and hygiene problems, by way of incorporating government projects and other NGO in the area by way of conducting regular health check-ups, camps, workshops, skill development etc.

Project Goal:

Self-reliance being the specific goal of the project will contribute in achieving the overall objective through improved performance and socio-economic situations.

The actual area of Bibvewadi has about a population of 70 Thousand people with Sixteen Thousand in voting list, the ward number being 123 in which the project will be implemented

The slum areas covered by Community Development Programme (CDP) of UBS are adjourned to in and around UBS, which is in the out skirts of Pune City. There are about eight slums covered by our CDP Project through dedicated team of grass root workers and the areas are like Bibvewadi, Papadwasti, Indira Nagar, Mahesh Society, Prem Nagar, Bibvewadi Wotta, Market Yard and Kumbar Wasti

The Community Development Project (CDP) is meant to help the poor and needy especially marginalized groups from different areas, we intend to develop the women population because women holds equal position with men in todays society. Men and Women share equal importance in the fields of education, career etc. and unless the marginalized women are given opportunities through awareness programs we cannot make a break through in these areas.

So far we have helped women and teen age girls in various skills such as;

1. Sewing and Tailoring – 2630 Women
2. Computer – 1900 Teen age Girls
3. Embroidery – 652 Women and teen age girls
4. Baking and Cooking classes – 1605 Women

Apart from these skills we have also helped then in non formal education, health and hygiene, and through organizing medical camps.
